Distance learning programme

Each year, UK Flour Millers runs seven modular courses to provide flour millers, employees of all job types at flour mills, and connected industry players in the UK and overseas with an essential understanding and underpinning knowledge of the milling sector. The courses are studied by hundreds of students around the world and can lead to the Advanced Certificate in Flour Milling.
The modules cover every aspect of flour milling from wheat to flour and milling to management. Each module is split up into "bite-sized" chunks to help students expand their understanding of the industry. You can learn more with our tailored virtual flour milling training website. There is also a guide for how to best utilise the training website's tools.
The modules may be studied in any order and in any combination; students are not required to have previous qualifications to enrol in a module. Students are encouraged to study between 1 and 3 modules in any given year (approx. 20 hours minimum study time per module).
For each module, students benefit from a library of accessible online resources including an online manual written by trained millers. Students will be allocated a tutor, someone who is experienced in the operation and management of flour mills, who will comment on their work and assist students as appropriate during the year. The student’s workplace will need to appoint a mill mentor to support their learning which should help maximise the rewards of their study.
We have prepared a handy checklist at the bottom of this page and have collated some testimonials for you to look over to see if the programme is right for you or your employees.
