nabim is the trade association that represents virtually 100% of the UK flour milling industry. The milling industry is the largest user of UK produced wheat (4.7mt in 2005), which makes up approximately 83% of its raw material requirement. nabim promotes the flour milling industry's views and works to improve understanding of its operational requirements in responding to Parliamentary, Government, EU and International consultations and through liaison with other parties.
nabim is active in many policy areas, including trade, technical, regulatory affairs, food safety, environment, research, health and safety, employment affairs and training. Fundamentally, nabim's role is to advise and represent its members on these issues, promoting a competitive, efficient and socially responsible sector of the food industry. As part of this process, nabim engages in regular dialogue with the whole supply chain, from plant breeders to farmers through to customer organisations, as well as with other trade bodies, government and its agencies and other influential actors in the agri-food sector.
nabim is also engaged in research into new technologies; works with members and government departments to find the most effective way of implementing new legislation; and identifies ways to support members comply with legislation. Recent examples include development of an industry template for an environmental management system; and the commissioning of research on atmospheric dusts.
