Gold star standard for student, Lanel
Star pupil Lanel Black has been awarded the prestigious nabim Gold Medal for her outstanding efforts in furthering the study of flour milling.
Her thesis – “Utilizing Six Sigma’s DMAIC model to improve flour mill balance, mill performance, efficiency, finished product quality, extraction and profitability”. The thesis will be made available to the industry later this year, whilst Lanel's engraved Gold Medal will be manufactured once the workshop reopens.
The Assessment Panel's verdict was that Lanel, who works at the East Caribbean Flour Mills in St Vincent, had undertaken a huge amount of work and produced a report of high quality.
In 2018 she was the winner of the Silver Medal, an honour given to the top student among those gaining the Advanced Certificate.
