nabim is committed to protecting your privacy and has never, and will never, sell or swap your data to third parties. How we use your personal information and take care of it is explained here.

When you are using the nabim website, The National Association of British and Irish Millers Limited (nabim) is the data controller.

 

The Legal bases we rely on

The law on data protection sets out a number of different reasons for which an organisation may collect and process your personal data, including:

Contractual obligations:

In certain circumstances, we need your personal data to comply with our contractual obligations, such as when delivering our Flour Milling Correspondence Course.

Legitimate interest:

In specific situations, we require your data to pursue our legitimate interests in a way which might reasonably be expected as part of operating a trade association and which does not materially impact your rights, freedom or interests.  For example, we may use the website to collect technical milling related data and request that the submitter include their name and business contact details.

Consent:

In specific situations, we can collect and process your data with your consent.  For example, when you agree to receive Correspondence Course promotional materials from us.

 

What personal information do we collect and why?

When you enrol on the nabim Flour Milling Training course or register to sit an exam the personal information we collect will be your title (Mr. Mrs, Ms etc.), full name, email address, occupation, whether you have previously enrolled on the nabim course, your nabim student number (if known), your employer’s business name, address and telephone number, mill mentor’s name, occupation and email address, the examination centre where you intend to write your exam and your signature.  This is to enable us to send your course materials, to keep an accurate record of your progress through the course, to collect payment for the course and/or examination, to provide support to the mill mentor, to produce accurate course certificates, to administer the examination, to post exam results, and to maintain a record of your progress through the course and examinations in order to respond to enquiries that you may make or that may be made by your current employer and any future employer or prospective employer.

 

When you visit nabim’s premises at 21 Arlington Street, London SW1A 1RN, your image may be recorded on CCTV.  This is to enable us to provide security for staff and visitors.

When you attend a nabim meeting, in person, by telephone or over video, a record of your attendance and any comments or opinions you may express at the meeting will be retained in the form of meeting minutes.  This is to allow you, other attendees, nabim staff and other interested parties to have a permanent record of the meeting’s proceedings and outcomes.

When you ask to be included on the distribution list of a nabim publication, the personal information we collect will be your name and email address to enable us to send you the publication.  If you request a printed copy we will also collect your postal address.

When you use the nabim website it will use ‘cookies’ to help us make our website, and your user experience, better.  Cookies mean that a website will remember you.  They are small text files that sites transfer to your computer/tablet/smartphone and make interacting with a website faster and easier.

 

How we protect your personal data

We ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect your personal data.  Our information system is protected by a security device (‘firewall’) designed to prevent unauthorised access to our network.  This is regularly monitored for possible vulnerabilities and attacks.  All of your personal data which is in electronic format is stored in the UK and backups are stored on computer servers in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).  Access to your personal information is password protected.

nabim will never sell, swap or release your personal information to any third party organisation or individual for mailing or marketing purposes.

 

How long will we keep your data?

Whenever we collect or process your personal data, we will only keep it for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to comply with our legal obligations.

 

Who do we share your personal data with?

We sometimes share your personal data with trusted third parties in order to fulfil the purpose for which that data was supplied.  For example, delivery couriers, nabim Flour Milling Training tutors and examiners, examination centres and invigilators.

We provide only the information they need to perform their specific services and they may only use your data for the exact purposes we specify in our contract with them.  We work closely with them to ensure that your privacy is respected and protected; and if we stop using their services any of your data held by them is deleted or returned to us.

For students of the nabim Flour Milling Training course based outside of the UK, this may include transferring and storing your data outside the EEA.

 

What are your rights over your personal data?

By law you have certain rights over your personal data that we hold.  (See the ICO website for detailed guidance on your rights - ico.org.uk).

You have the right to request:

  • The correction of your personal data when incorrect, out of date or incomplete.
  • A copy of the personal data we hold about you, free of charge in most cases.
  • That we stop (based upon your specific situation) processing or storing your data.
