Module 6 - Power and Automation
Q. Why is compressed air so important to a flour miller?
A. Compressed air is vitally important to a miller as quite simply without compressed air a mill cannot operate.
Machines such as rollermills and dust collectors all require compressed air. Lesser machines, but nevertheless important machines such as diverter valves or packing machines are inoperable without compressed air. Mills need to have a facility to generate their own supply of compressed air and do this using either Reciprocating or Screw Compressors.
Compressed air has to be passed through driers to ensure the air is moisture free. Efficiency of compressed air is also important with the problems associated with a poorly maintained system being reflected in the profitability of the flour mill.
